From adolescence through adulthood, Diane Adams-Strickland has always participated in some form of fitness or competitive sport. She was a member of the University of Maryland’s Dance Team, where she also received her undergraduate education. Diane later earned her Juris Doctor and moved to New York City for three years to practice law.
Diane found Pilates after experiencing lower back pain and hip bursitis while training for her first marathon at the age of 40. In her effort to find relief, she purchased some Pilates DVDs and began to teach herself the method at home. Within a few days, she felt immediate relief in her back and hips. Subsequently, Diane attended group mat classes and began reading anything and everything about Pilates.
In April 2017, she visited Excel Pilates Northern Virginia to begin private lessons with Alexandra and her love of Pilates grew exponentially. Due to the mind and body transformation that followed with regular Pilates practice, Diane decided she wanted to share the gift of Pilates and left the practice of law to enroll in the Excel Pilates Teacher Training Program. She completed the program in 2019.
Diane is passionate about Pilates and the benefits it provides to “everybody” and “every body.” Although she enjoys working with all clients, she has a keen interest in working with athletes and special-needs persons. Her passions also extend to her two children, running, obstacle-course races, and music.
